“fisur’s kidneys”….. Ch3 Pt3 SotB
Makes me laugh every time I read it.May 11, 2018 at 2:04 am #548
Okay, Roger – explain fisur’s kidneys. I tried to look it up and didn’t get anywhere, just the gist from the context. My favorite is still ripper cushionsMay 11, 2018 at 6:59 am #552
I have no explanation at all, Beth.
I do agree it’s the context that helps – I like to think of it as sarcastic Vampire-speak for “a useless waste of time” – or words to that effect 🙂May 11, 2018 at 12:12 pm #562
Somewhere — whether is discusssion with a friend, who I have hooked to reading this, or in my search for meaning — I came across an oblique reference to an appendage or organ present but not longer needed due to evolution.May 11, 2018 at 1:40 pm #575
I am presuming that Fisur was a hero in an early epic. Its very elizabethan in a way. They would say “God’s teeth!” as a similar epithet.May 11, 2018 at 2:45 pm #579
That’s another good way to look at it. That’s why I like these forums. Another point of view adds to mine. Thanks.May 13, 2018 at 1:27 am #602
Wait, where did Fisur’s Kidney show up? Was it in Sweep of the Blade or one of the earlier books?
(As though I needed an excuse for a re-read…)May 13, 2018 at 1:28 am #603
… nevermind, answer is right there in the first post. Sigh, I read through the rest of the conversation and then blanked on remembering the very first thing posted. It’s been a long day. Please excuse the brain hiccup.May 13, 2018 at 11:58 pm #607
We’ve all been there, done thatMay 14, 2018 at 2:31 pm #618

Rejoice, Oh Book Devouring Horde, Rejoice!
Clash you cymbals, sound your horns!
Blessed are we to receive the words of the Authorlords.
Yea, most blessed are we.
Long through the weary weekend we endured.
Terrible was our travail.
Yea, so terrible that some amoungst us doubted.
“How long?”, they cried, “How long?”
With patient words and examples did the Authorlords teach us.
With gracious utterings did they guide us.
With kindness and compassion did they give ear to our sufferings.
“Endure”, they exclaimed, “for the time of downloading is nigh.”
Our joy is now realized.
Rejoice! We have the words of Maud upon the path!
Rejoice! We have the revelations of a plot against most Noble Arland!
Rejoice! For Maud is no dummy and Seveline is cruz’n for a bruis’n!
We thank thee then, Oh most Noble Authorlords,
For these thy words of entertainment,
Graciously bestowed upon they horde,
And we do wait in patient anticipation
until the time of thine utterance comes again.May 14, 2018 at 2:44 pm #621
“..needs of his House are clearly fisur’s kidneys”
It reads to me like a variation of the sentiment ‘what am I – chopped liver?’May 14, 2018 at 2:50 pm #622

So quoth the Mighty Herald Drew upon hearing the keening of the stricken restless Hoard “…for the time of downloading is nigh… Rejoice!” and thus The Hoard was refreshed by the words of the AuthorLords… until such a time as
the needful refresh: -ing came upon the Hoard again…May 18, 2018 at 11:01 pm #654
“Seveline is cruz’n for a bruis’n!”
Oh god. I laughed out loud at that.
