It has been mentioned numerous times that there is not enough German Shepherd coverage on the blog. By the way, whenever I post this picture, someone always gets upset at the fire hydrant on the lawn. This was taken at the vet boarding kennel. It’s a prop fire hydrant for the dogs.
As was shown previously, awkward puppy Quincy transitioned into a handsome dog.
Artha had a vet check up this week. She lost weight, which is good, and her vitals are in good shape.
Now we come to Perrito. Perrito is a hairless chihuahua. Technically there is no such thing. The hairlessness happens when a chihuahua is crossed with a hairless breed like Chinese Crested, illustrated in the stock photo below.
Perrito wasn’t the result of such cross. Perrito’s bloodline was crossed with a Xoloitzcuintli, Xolo for short. (Pronounced as show-lo.) Xolo, also known as Mexican Hairless Dog, is one of the ancient breeds. They’ve been around for over 3,000 years. They come in three different sizes and look like this.
Chi-chis, of course, look like this.
So now that you have those mental images in your head, I present to you Perrito, the cutest, funniest little doggie. Despite the lack of fur, he is so adorable. Once you meet him, it’s all over.
We love him to pieces, so do not be mean to him in the comments.
Although technically more chi than Xolo, Perrito doesn’t act like a chi. He loves everyone. He likes dogs that are not chis. He likes cats. He has never snapped, he never bares his teeth, he is an equal opportunity cuddler, and there just isn’t much of the typical chi behaviors there. He is super tiny.
Artha and Quincy really like Perrito. Artha, in particular, decided that this is her puppy. Meow Meow plays with him and when he is put up, she tries to unlock his crate.
She will boop him gently when he gets too rowdy.
He is such a cutie, but like most puppies, he is in the velociraptor stage. Perrito runs here! Perrito runs there! Perrito bites things. Perrito, Perrito, Perrito! When he comes to visit, I mostly stand still and he runs around my feet in circles.
Speaking of Artha, I have an amusing story for you. A new neighbor moved in behind Kid 2’s house. They have a dog. The dog is aggressive and mean and it really, really wanted a piece of Artha and Quincy.
Kid 2’s German Shepherds are pretty chill unless they are provoked. The neighbor on the right also has a dog, she comes out, nobody loses their cool. She barks occasionally and Artha and Quincy will bark in solidarity, but overall it’s a calm dog friendship. The neighbor on the left owns a yippy dog who attacks the fence and makes Quincy bite grass in frustration.
This new dog is a menace. Once it realized that it couldn’t get through the fence to have a fight, it decided to start digging. It managed to dig a hole, not big enough to squeeze through, but enough to make a gap.
The other day Kid 2 calls me and says, “Mom, you’re not going to believe this.” Apparently, Artha decided to put a stop to the tunneler warfare. Now when Artha goes out, she backs up to the fence – Kid 2 has observed this several times now – and poops in the hole.
We are happy to report that all digging efforts have seized. When I told all of this to Jeaniene, she laughed for about a minute and said something about perimeter defecation warfare.
And that’s your story for this Friday.
Awww, no mean stuff here, he’s adorable! imagine all the little clothes you could knit for him to keep him cute and warm 😍
I’m picturing this and trying very hard to resist lrof. But it so cute. lrof. Cute. lrof
I hate people who are mean to dogs that look different to what they think a dog should look.
I am asking a serious question here. Does perrito have to wear sunscreen?
Moderator R says
Hairless breeds all need special care, either coverings or sunscreen 😊
Perrito wears sunscreen and has special moisturizers, but most of the time he wears cute outfits. We are very careful with the sun exposure.
Have you tried to knit anything yet for Perrito in your CFT (copious free time)? I cannot imagine trying to knit something with a zero gauge needle for his tiny little legs.
Moderator R says
Ilona attempted to knit him a sweater but he’s so tiny that if it goes over his head it’s too big for his small body https://ilona-andrews.com/2023/crafting-and-other-weirdness/
Neon zinc sunscreen might be kind of fun, providing dogs can wear that kind. Lol
Are you trying to make him look like the vampires from KD with his colorful sunblock? 🤣

What great idea.

My heart has belonged to Artha since the first time I saw those beautiful, loyal eyes!
Quincy is a dashing gentleman, and the Perrito de Aventura is adorable! 🐶
Me too! Ever since, “Hi, I’m Artha” 😍
Probably not first by the time I finish typing but……
Love reading about your pet antics – and hopefully perimeter defecation warfare doesn’t catch on…..

That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day! Artha: Tactical Commander of Perimeter Defecation.
Perrito is a-dor-a-ble.
Big Mike says
Artha was sending a message: “Come inside our fence and the next time you see daylight will be when I shit you out.”
Shepherds do not mess around.
Perrito is such an adorable gremlin!

excuse me my heart is just melting
He’s real cute – and all that energy!
“perimeter defecation warfare” – my days, this had me laughing like a loon
Seriously no offense but the animal posts are literally the best lol you have no idea how much i enjoyed this post. I burst out laughing when i saw perrito cause his lil face legit made me happy and my girls and i enjoyed the video! Ive always been a shepherd fan and artha takes the cake especially after her brilliant pooping. Thank you for this post!!!

OMG I am in love ! He is so cute !!! This little face !! Those little paws !! He’s lucky he’s not my dog, he would have to put a resctricting order to keep me for kissing him all day long.

I thought I was prepared from the other photos 😂
“Ok, so dog that looks like a Sphinx cat mixed with Chihuahua, yep I think I can…OMG! His little face!”
His ears look like Oriental Shorthair cats’ ears. Especially when they are kittens. So cute!
I know you were wary about sharing photos, so thank you for doing so. I think he’s adorable! There was a super friendly Chihuahua friend of mine and my dog’s who had a teensy tiny bomber jacket to properly convey his bad-assitude despite his small stature. I hope Perrito can also convey his personality through fashion.
The poop warfare is too funny!
Perrito is The Absolute Cutest!!!!
We adopted a chocolate lab from the local humane society. She was approximately 5ish at the time. We moved into a new neighborhood. Well about 9:30 p.m. each night the neighborhood dogs would start barking, I would let Terra out to do her business before bedtime. She decided that was enough barking and she would give this big deep bark and all the dogs stop barking. It was she went out there and let them know “Moma said” be quiet. It was funny but it worked like a charm.
Margaret K says
I have never been a chihuahua kind of gal, but omg is Perrito cute!! I love reading about the pets and seeing their pictures. Thank you for sharing. 💕
Only laughed for a minute? Hahahahaha, still laughing.
Perrito is adorable!! Lucky pup.
Gotta admire Artha’s no nonsense response. I’m sure the offender received her message loud & clear.
I really needed the belly-laughs.
Sara T says
Sadly I can totally relate to the mean dog next door.
That would be my 19 lb dog (who definitely has Chi genes – 28% actually) who loves most other dogs but HATES with a passion, the very calm GSD next door (he was nearly attacked by a GSD once) .
He tried to dig a hole under the fence but we put a stop to that.
Now there is a gap at the bottom of the fence in another section. Anytime I hear enraged barking I run out to chase him out from under the bushes and apologize to my neighbor.🤦
The gap will be filled as soon as the rain stops here in CA. 🙂
Love the animal stories. They are so adorable.
Debbie B says
We all, probably everyone of your fans, told you that revealing Perrito, would deny that he’d be considered ‘ugly’. He’s SOooooooo Cute, SOooooooo Adorable!! (would insert anime girl in dress, having big star-y filled eyes, here) He will never fit in an ‘ugly’ dog contest! If his head hair grows more, styling options…! Little hats, maybe costumes: he could have his own web presence, like Grumpy Cat and other such web visible animal-persons!! Eeeeee!!
Perrito is absolutely adorable. While I can see you being careful with the pix, I think you will be okay w/ the BDH.
It’s so great that he has missed out on the aggressive attitude of the usual Chihuahua. That is not a fun thing, though understandable for anything that small.
I was amused at how tiny he was compared to Meow meow. Can we see how he compares to Tuna? (Tuna is the size of my cats, so my proportions are weird. I realize this is a “me thing”.)
Thank you for all the pictures. I always enjoy puppy pix.
A pic of Tuna next to Perrito would be epic
Ms. Kim says
Artha drops a bomb….. lol…. way to go Artha.
All the fur babies were lovely. it’s nice to see meow meow again.
Thanks for the laugh.
Ms. Kim says
+1. Meow is so big now!
What a great story! And who could be mean to Perrito?!? He is so cute! Those EARS!!!
Perrito is soo cute. Loved the fur babies and non fur babies.
one thing I have hairless american terrier’s, and live in south carolina, which gets weather like you do in texas, once it starts to warm up perrito can get sunburned, so cloths are good to help stop this, but i also use a kid friendly spray on sunblock. which i rub on my boys. and i have yet to end up with a sunburned dog. I dont know if your doing this, but its food for though.
thank you hugs and well wishes
Moderator R says
Kid 2 is a very responsible pet owner, the protection is ON! 😊
There probably was enough of a gap that Perrito could fit through. Since Artha has adopted him, she’s filling the hole, as a preventative measure. Maybe.
You do realize that we all now want Perrito as a character in one of your books?
But I don’t think Sean Evans would say kind things about him…
Ms. Kim says
Too true. And for sure Curran wouldn’t be impressed. But Helen?
I admit that the first thing I thought of when I saw the photo was Gracie, the puppy in Louise Penny’s books that no one can believe is a dog. But he is adorable!
Donna A says
I grew up with German Shepherds, they are super smart. One of ours would play ball with three year old me, I’d roll it to him and he’d nose it back to me. The other would stay out in the garden with me patiently waiting and refuse to leave me outside alone even when all the others went inside. And Perrito is adorable, much cuter than a certain Frenchie I know!
My Dad had a German Shepherd as a child who would growl at my grandparents if they tried to punish my dad. I’ve always loved them and have had many over the years.
One of mine Chloe who has now passed away, loved to play fetch but hated for non family members to touch her, so she figured out how to side and back kick her toys with her back leg onto the persons foot as she stayed just out of reach. Then she would sit in front of them and stare until they threw the toy.
My current Shepherd adores my nieces 4 & 5. She has patiently played fetch with them since they learned how to throw (or drop). She has obeyed their commands to sit, lay down etc… for a treat for years even when you could barely understand what they were trying to say. She plays hide and seek with them. I have her stay while they hide then she finds them. They have little battery powered Jeeps and she loves to chase after them as they drive. She has grabbed their parents pants legs to stop them when the girls are upset about going home. She is protective when someone raises their voices near the girls even if it’s in a friendly or happy manner. We have to watch her closely and sometimes confine her when other people are around. She puts herself between them (and me) and any strange person or animal and “herds” us away. We live on a farm in the middle of nowhere so thankfully strange people and dogs are not a common occurance. She has “successfully” protected us from cows, chickens, horses, and etc… 😆. Normally she and the cat get along but she gets insanely jealous if we pay to much attention to the cat and chases it away.
Donna A says
We had a cat and budgie with the dogs, they all loved each other. I used to sleep in a pile with them (not the budgie, he preferred the sideboard).
We have photos of me as a baby sleeping with them all around but heaven forbid anyone unknown acted badly around us. One time my grandads friend got angry – I was only 7 so started crying – and our Alsatian growled a warning but the man carried on shouting so Sam got hold of his arm – didn’t puncture the skin but closed his mouth around the wrist. When my grandad told his friend to stop that time he listened!
Perrito looks like a micro-bouda in the first pic. So cute! Too funny about Artha. Of course that would only encourage some dogs, so it’s good the neighbor dog isn’t a coprophage, at least in the most literal sense.
OMG, yes! Now that you said that, I can’t un-picture it! 🤩
yes! I immediately thought hyena cub when I saw Perrito’s photo. How can you not love that little face???😉
As for the poop warfare? Go Artha!!
Ms. Kim says
+1 for both comments.
Yay, Artha!!! Sending you fortitude for Perrito puppy shenanigans – he is a cutie.
My male dog Bart died when he was 13 year 8 months old. I waited several months then start looking for a new dog. The shelter had a good looking 6 month old GSD which I adopted. He is 13 months old now, over 88 lbs and turned out to be a GSD/Husky mix with a husky personality and a double dwerp gene. Shelter dogs are like a box of chocolates sometimes you get one that is mostly nuts.
The perimeter defecation is also a standard response by females to importunate males coming on to the females territory. It works very well.
I think it’s hilarious that Perrito tries to play with Meow-Meow’s tail. It’s usually the other way around with the cat chasing the dog’s tail! He’s very cute and lucky to have a family that loves him to bits.
And a “Well Done!” to Artha. I would have loved to have seen that dog’s face the first time it encountered Artha’s booby trap – and its owner’s face when it came back from encountering said booby trap. I’ll be smiling about it all weekend.
Didn’t you mean poopy trap? XD
A proud and noble breed indeed!
We have a Giant Mutant Chi mix (looks like a deerhead Chihuahua – and google the Chihuahua wars between deer head fans and apple head fans for an eye-rolling moment). He is a little over 12 lbs, tan color with white socks , a white tail tip and a white blaze down his head and nose. He loves every human he meets, very friendly, HOWEVER he does not like big or rambunctious dogs or people on wheels (bicycles, skateboards, motorcycles). It’s really his only flaw.
He’s also a ratter and a mouser, but I don’t consider that a flaw. The spouse was going to start painting little rat stencils on his side to commemorate his kills, but was talked out of that. I don’t THINK he was serious.
I thought it would be fun to put him in little coats in winter, but, NO, that is not acceptable and he is very good at getting out of them or shredding them.
Moderator R says
Hehehe, there’s a Rat’s Chamber in the Patrician palace in Terry Pratchett’s books that has a unique fresco of dancing rats on the ceiling, rat wall paper, rat carpet, and so on- which has the effect of making people feel as if they need a wash after a few minutes.
I’d say discouraging the decorating urges was probably the way to go 😅
And now I’m picturing the rats holding up Vetinari’s shaving mirror. Heh! Thanks for the visual!
Perrito! The cuteness!! Squeeee!!
Artha, Quincy, and Meow Meow are very good big brother and sisters, playing with Perrito and taking such care with him.
Thanks for the pix!!
Thank you for sharing cute doggo pics! Perrito really is the perfect name, he looks just like the character from the movie!
Any chance of seeing him in his sock sweater?🥺🐶 He sounds just too adorable in it.
Thank you for sharing that! I can understand being concerned about negative comments because the Internet seems to be full of them, but hopefully all of us here are kind enough to not say something bad about a person’s puppy! Also, cue Mod R and her superpowers of deletion if a troll chimes in!
Perrito is sooo tiny! He almost looks like a toy! I’m glad Artha solved the incursion on her border! 😊
OMG! Cutest puppy ever! he’s so tiny!
And I love the Artha story! Sounds like something Grendel would do!
Perrito 💜. I just can’t get over his adorableness.
Thank you for the updates. All dog stories are appreciated. Your house must exist in a magic cloud. It seems dogs and cats mingle in harmony there.
Laura Register says
Perrito is adorable!
I LOVE Artha’s solution! Our neighbors with the a$$hole dog just moved out this week and I couldn’t be happier. This dog hated us and hated our dogs and would show his hatred by slamming against the fence whenever any of us was outside. He slammed on the fence so hard and so many times that he moved the fence over about 4 inches. I had to cut a hole in the bottom of the fence for my sprinkler because it used to be on my side but is now on their side of the fence because it has moved so much. The fence is on the list of repairs for this year.
I wanted to dislike Perrito because of horrible experiences with my grandmother’s evil Chihuahuas, however Perrito is obv. adorkable.
Every single one of those pets could work for Rogan. The bad guys would never see it coming 😂

I feel like Perrito might be too much for Augustine 😀 . He already had to survive through a Disney mission impossible with the ferrets. This might break him.
HAHAHAHAHAA. This is very true.
Augustine needs to level up.
he is so sweet. just love him#
You need to put Perrito into a tiny Jedi robe.
Michele G says
Aww…. thanks for all the dog picks. Perrito is so cute! Good for Artha for putting a stop to the tunnel warfare.
The fur babies are so cute! And Artha is a genius!
My dog is the mean dog next door. We arent sure what she is, she looks Corgi, Chi and Shiba. While she loves people, and kids and will nest if any soft fabric is in her reach, she will not play nice with other animals.
She is a diva and will not pee or poo in her own back yard, we have to walk her twice a day.
If I see other playful animals and owners I have to back up and apologize. If they give her room she wont bark or snap just watch as they go by. She hates being outside so at least we dont have to worry about her trying to bother the other neighborhood animals.
Thank you, I really needed some laughs; today was a bad day for me.
I do not mean any disrespect, but are you sure there is not a bit of bat in Perrito? I mean, those ears…

That’s what Jeaniene Frost suspects too, that he’s at least partly baby bat 😀 https://www.ilona-andrews.com/2023/research-and-tiny-dogs/

OMG More Perrito por favor! He is the cutest little dogger!
Greg Morrow says
I’ve been told that chihuahuas are primarily aggressive when their personal space isn’t respected — and as tiny dogs, people are way too often terrifyingly large and close. But if you pay attention to their body language, same as you should with any creature, and respect how and when they want interaction, they’re the same loving goofballs that any healthy dog is. So no surprise that Perrito is a happy dog in a household that knows how to treat dogs!
Perrito … I am DYING OF THR CUTE.
And go, Artha!
Thanks for sharing pup pics today!
Perrito is adorable and related to the energizer Bunny perhaps? I love that Meow Meow tries to break him out of “prison”. Artha is just plain smart! Why have bloodshed when poop works!
I love the animal content. It makes my heart so happy.
Perritooooooo – who could be mean to such a cute baby. I mean, look at him. Just look. that little tuft of hair, that face. all the cute.
Artha is hilarious. I love her stealth poop fare.
She only laughed for a minute?
Well, ok. She probably doesn’t also have cats that participate in excremental warfare.
Jill is a calico. She has a sister or mother who is a tortoiseshell, whom I have named Uschi the Morrigan. My first cat was a tortoiseshell. While Sophie was still alive, I adopted a grey tabby that we named m0053*. Eventually Sophie died. We adopted a pair of cats the shelter would only allow adopting as a pair. Jill and Uschi.
m0053 gets along with Uschi, but he and Jill hate each other. Cats who have been rescued from the streets as adults often have issues that aren’t even really health issues, in that they can lead a full and healthy life without treatment. Which is good, because in Jill’s case there is something wrong with her digestive system that causes her to make the stinkiest farts and poops of any animal ever. Years ago we discovered one of our cats had worms because of the stench of his farts. Jill’s perfectly normal daily farts** blow that out of the water. Her poops have, on occasion, encouraged us to take a walk while the apartment airs out.
Jill doesn’t know how to cover her stuff. Neither does m0053. In Jills’s case, she scratches at the inside of the litterbox lid, and in m0053’s, he scratches at the mat outside the litterbox. Uschi’s hobby*** is covering the other cats’ poops.
But sometimes Uschi is not quick enough. And Jill has pooped in the doorway of one of the boxes. Which leads m0053 to head for the untainted box, and pee a moat in front of it.
We spend a lot of time cleaning up cat pee and covering cat poop.
*yes, every name has a story, and m0053’s name includes numbers.
**occurring when she is at her happiest, which means being petted or brushed by my husband, or even just sitting in her special box on his desk. My husband feels blessed to have Jill love him.
***one of Uschi’s hobbies. She has the sobriquet of The Morrigan because her main hobby is destroying things.
I love Perrito’s little head of hair and little mittens! So cute to see him get along with the rest of the zoo!
Also Artha is outsmarting on so many fronts. That’s hilarious.
Carina Paredes says
Perrito is adorable. something about those cute little eyes makes me want to snuggle him.
Artha is a genius. Back before I gave up, I researched ways to keep my dog from digging up moles. The “expert dog trainer” advice was to put poop in the hole she’s digging and she won’t want to dig there. Problem is, if my dog dug a hole, the poor mole is already dead and gone. She can catch a mole before I can blink, much less find poop to put in the hole.
Perrito looks like a mini hyena and I want him. Artha is a mood, and I want her, too.
Mind if I dogsit?
Mary Beth says
Perrito is adorable.
I am passing along the defecation warfare story to Hubby, who has had a horrid week and needs the laughter.
Tiny dog! Tiny dog! He’s so adorable!
I have a naked dog too! Mine is a standard Xolo, so he’s quite a bit bigger than Perrito – about 20″ tall and 42lbs. Xolos make great cuddle buddies once they get through the crazed adolescent stages. Fun fact – the sun will tan & darken with sun exposure, and if you put little jackets on him, Perrito will develop a lovely farmers’ tan with dark face & legs and pale middle.
Moderator R says
I don’t know why, the image of Perrito and “farmer tan” cracks me up 😀 . A lovely gentleman farmer hehe.
I have never seen a dog with a farmer’s tan, but now I feel that I must go Google it! 🏃♀️……….🤣😍
Awwww ❤️❤️. Perrito is ADORABLE!! And Artha is so smart 👍
Perrito looks like a very tiny, very cute chupacabra.
Love the story of Artha!
Aww Perrito is cute, and reminds me of a friend’s chi, although in her case the baldness was due to her initial owners who didn’t get a skin disease treated (boooo). She is all better now, although she will remain mostly hairless, but with a top mop like Perrito. She lives with several deer hounds and lurchers one of whom is her best friend, the big ones are so careful when playing with her.

Her goal is life seems to be to snuggle constantly, and she will flirt and play with people she’s met more than once. Not sure what her other parent was, but it must have been a friendly, quiet breed!

Perrito currently has a wardrobe made of socks- Ilona attempted to knit him a sweater but he’s so tiny that if it goes over his head it’s too big for his small body https://ilona-andrews.com/2023/crafting-and-other-weirdness/
lol… landmines. That’s one way to do it. My little beast who is 12 lbs, constantly tries to get through the fence to play with the 80lb labradoodle. He tries to eat the fence to let her through. She ignores dogs her size, and desperately wants to play with Farley. At the vet, she always goes to the big dogs wanting to play, but unfortunately her personality, described as sassy by her groomer, is a lot bigger than her body.
Perrito has Bambi eyes. Adorable 🥰.

Artha’s creativity for “de-fence” is awesome!
Omg perimeter defecation warfare is hilarious! Go Artha! I’m sorry but Perrito is a doll, I would take him in a minute. The only thing that would be cuter is if he had the Xolo ears from that stock photo.

when we were first married we had two siberian huskies a male and a female. the fence was wood and a couple of slats had been broken and we put the new ones on the inside so the dogs could see out. one neighbor had a little fluffy male lhasa apso type dog, that was out roaming the neighborhood all the time. the female husky would stand near one of the open slats and croon until the little male came over and the male husky would pee on his head. they did this at least once a day.
I love, love, ❤, the dog blogs. As a long time German Shepherd parent who also now owns a cat named Meow-Meow (my nieces named her) I adore hearing about them. Perrito is cute in his own way – the photo where you can see his little back wrinkles is adorable and I’m so glad for his housemates that he hasn’t inherited the typical Chi personality. Thanks for making me laugh today!
As a kid, I used to walk our collie around the block. One yard had a block wall with a wooden gate that abutted the sidewalk. Every time we went by that yard, the large dog inside would bark and stick its head under the gate to snarl imprecations at my dog. One day my dog saw his opportunity- he squatted and pooped right in front of the growling/barking dog’s nose where it stuck out under the fence. He pooped with malice aforethought. I could tell from the way my collie acted that he was very proud of himself…
I love your animal updates! Martha’s ‘perimeter defecation warfare’ had me stitches!
Robyn A. says
Thanks so much for photos of everyone! Perrito is so cute! I love the velociraptor image! And Artha doing perimeter poop defense!
I had a German Shepherd/Collie (like Lassie) mix. One place I lived he liked to go over to the neighbors house and they didn’t like that. One day my roommate left the gate open and my dog wandered over and pooped on a pile of leaves in their garage right in front of them. They were furious, but they were not nice neighbors so we were secretly very pleased!
He also had a good partner in my male black cat. The cat would open the door under the sink and my dog would pull the garbage out! I caught them at it one day!
Also if my black cat was fighting with another cat outside, all I had to do was open the door and tell my dog to break it up and he would run right to where the fight was then the two of them would saunter back.
I miss those two.
So please keep up the cat/dog stories! They are always welcome.
Oh Artha is brilliant! Please use her “perimeter defecation warfare” scenario in a story.
And how big a cat is meow meow? Perrito looks kitten size.
Moderator R says
Perrito is very small!
aaaah Artha you’re a BOSS hahahahaha
Janet Scurlock says
That’s actually what a trainer told us to do when out GSD would dig holes. Put his poop in it and cover it up. Digging holes stopped!!
He looks darn cute!
Who could be mean about Perrito? He is adorable. I love the little punk mohawk hair style he has.
Yay! Was hoping you would share Perrito photos. He is adorable. 😍
Also love the posts about your pets. Thank you for sharing with us. ❤️

Thank you so much for posting pics of Perrito. He was just the pick me- up I needed today. <3
As for Artha, she is awesome. Its a literal case of "eat 's41t and die. LOL alos made my day.
Perimeter Defecation Warfare.. along with regularly refreshed Urninary Instigation Tactics-a part of the Urban Dog arsenal.
So, is Perrito a Xohuahua? Or a Chilo?
Love to ALL dogs and cats!
Thank you for sharing!

What amazing dogs and cats you have Perrito is totally cute, I understand why you would fall in love with that face, love the poop job shows whose boss. Have a wonderful weekend, perhaps perrito will be involved in the next ferret heist 😂❤️
Thanks for sharing, as always. Your family four legged members are amazing.
How big will Peritto get?
How many and who live full time at HA? Meow Meow, Mr. Tubbins – is Arla a direct member of HA (I hope you know what I mean)? We know Gordon wants another dog.
My husband and I are the staff of a 16 year old Queen of The Universe cat who is the most sociable creature I’ve ever met.
Moderator R says
All the pets in this post belong to Kid 2 🙂 and only come to visit at House Andrews.
Mr Tubbins, Sookie the Old English Buldogge, Tuna the cat (and more) are permanent residents 🐶 🐈
That is the cutest little thing ever! I wish I could also practice defecation warfare, sadly I am not a dog and will get arrested for that crap (pun intended 😁).
Perrito is the most adorable dog ever! Do you knit little sweaters for him? Like ones with little hearts?
Moderator R says
The hand-knit sweaters are waiting for him when he gets a little bit bigger 😊https://ilona-andrews.com/2023/crafting-and-other-weirdness/
Paula R says
I can definitely see the Xoloitzcuintli in Perrito, they have a very distinctive look. Kid 2 is obviously doing a great job with the GSDs, and Artha is a genius to wage Perimeter Defecation Warfare and has obviously defended to border (read: fence).
I can’t speak for the rest of the BDH, but I love the pet and family posts.
LOL! Oh, that is so good!
Oh, this made me laugh, so thank you for that. German Shepherds are apparently smarter than I remember. I bet Artha was super proud of herself too. Did what had to be done, yessir. And I’m storing away the image of Quincy biting grass in frustration. 😂
Awww, who would make nasty comments about that little dude? Sounds like an absolute doll. I love that even the cat tries to set him free. Meow Meow has gotten so big!
Thank you for the smiles and laughter! Cute puppy made me smile, but the doggie doo, made me laugh 😂
Amanda H says
When I say I spit coffee on the keyboard over Artha’s ingenious tactic, just know it was a mouthful. Damn smart dog! And Perrito needs all the cuddles and kisses with that darling little face of his. Just let me know if you get tired of him, I will gladly add him to my doggie menagerie!
Aah Perrito is so cute! Never heard of a xolo before! Thanks for sharing the dogs!
Oh.my.goodness! How adorable! This cuteness overload is just what my weekend needed. Thank you!
CJ Smith says
Perrito’s little face and the antics you described (run, run, run, bite, run, run, run) he is just adorable. I love Artha’s solution – poop war. LOL, go ARTHA!
Perrito is the absolute cutest!!!! I can’t believe anyone would think otherwise. I would give him all the love. Our littlest chi doesn’t act like one either.
Mean to Perrito!? I would get a baby sling for him and take him everywhere 🥰🥰🥰 Too dang cute 🤩
Perrito is adorable! I love the ears.
I adore Perrito!
My Covid pup looks like she was put together out of spare parts (low white and brown body, funny front legs). She is 30% chi and really doesn’t look it, but behaviorally, she is getting more chi every day, including nipping at anyone who isn’t me or my husband. She gets locked in the bedroom now when we have anyone else in the house—cannot trust her!
My need-a-puppy-to-play-with-the-Covid-puppy is part corgi and looks vaguely like she has corgi genes. She is also part chi—more chi than her sister—but fortunately doesn’t act like it!
Purrito is gorgeous. He may mostly resemble a Chi but the tuffs of hair on his tail and head and definitely his ears appears all Xolo.
Good for Artha! GSDs are such wonderful dogs. We had three until two were lost unexpectedly this past December, one to old age, and my wife’s service dog to heart failure, he was 5. She professionally trains service dogs for disabled veterans with PTSD and traumatic brain injury here in northern WI.
We both have done Schutzhund/IPO training in the past and still have an 8 yr old GSD female, Freki (one of Odin’s wolves) who is trained to be a tracker. We recently provided a home for a retired (7 yr) K9 officer from San Antonio, Ike a Belgian Tervuren. Tervs are the somewhat calmer cousins to the Belgian Malinois.
Never have run across a Xolo before so Perrito seems like an interesting cross! They bring us so much love and joy and become an integral part of our families.

New cutest puppy on the planet — PERRITO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And “Perimeter defecation warfare” ……… *laughs self off chair & lies on floor, helpless with giggles*
Damn Rtha is smart. Just amazing.
and Perroita is amazing.
Xolo. Now I know where Anubis got his head from.
Does the name Perrito mean anything, I’m really curious.
I have to wonder did his breed originate on Yoda’s home planet. Small, not green, and cute.
Moderator R says
Perrito is the diminutive form of perro (dog) in Spanish. He was named for the Puss in Boots 2 character 😊 https://youtu.be/tQrws12BtZY
omg perrito is SO CUTE!!
Also why do I have the feeling that perimeter defecation is going to show up in a book somewhere….
We have two dogs. Sweetpea, a Chihuahua mix who is not snappy at all, but will go back to her ‘house’ (kennel) and berk at people from its shelter, and Bobo, a Staffordshire/Boston Terrier cross who absolutely lurvs everyone to death and thinks his under-bite smile is the cutest ever.
We moved to the Mogollan Rim in northern Arizona to the pines a year and a half ago, to a large yard completely surrounded by a see-through chain link fence. This may not seem important, but the perimeter worried Bobo, who clearly felt the need for additional perimeter protection. Yup. We walk the perimeter and collect up his doggie bombs all the time.
I will say, we live in a forest with all the accompanying predators wandering through at odd moments….except for our well-guarded yard.

Be mean to Perrito? Do monsters who would do such a thing exist outside of horror fiction? Bah; a plague on all their houses! That little cutie is adorable.
Best of luck to K2 with the owners of that dog; nasty minded me worries that the pet’s attitude betokens the owner’s.
Marianne H says
Oh my goodness! Perrito is an absolute cutie!!!! There is just so much adorableness there! Then, to see Perrito playing with Meow Meow? Even MORE adorableness!!!! Small packages do tend to hold wonderful things. 😊
Carol Duchesneau says
Is it possible to expire from too much cuteness? OMG! I am now internally squeeing (so as not to alarm my mom). My paternal grandparents had a tea cup chihuahua who actually outlived them. She lived to be 18.
Artha is such a smart girl. Good for her! Do you have to worry about sunburn for Perrito? He is adorable!
Moderator R says
Perrito wears sunscreen and has special moisturizers and cute outfits to carefully shield him from sun damage.
Elizabeth Lyn Barbee says
Perrito is the cutest. If he didn’t have such a good home already I would try to adopt him.

Priceless! Made my day, too.

I think Artha is a very smart dog!
Perrito is so adorable 😍. But I have to ask, was he named after the chihuahua in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish? If not it’s a cute coincidence.
Moderator R says
Yes, he was 😄
Perrito is so adorable! How could anyone say otherwise?
This was delightful, and I love all your pets. I also have a chi mix who is not a typical chi — she’s calm, sweet, and nearly silent. Behold la Nina:
OMG! That puppy is sooo cute! Who could be mean to a face like that? Dogs are so great. I love cats too! I have one of each 😁. I had an Akita once who used to stand guard at my back fence in case the earth movers on the golf course decided to get aggressive. He was so fearless. 😋
Whenever I get pressed for time, I start deleting things to clear out my in boxes(yes) plural. I would not delete these blog posts for the world. “Perimeter defecation warfare”. Belly laughed for a solid minute and will tell anyone who will listen to me. 🤣🤣
CJ Evans says
Perrito is a darling little lovebug. there is nothing wrong with his looks.
ROFL – still laughing about the “perimeter defecation warfare”.
Kathleen L Kaufmann says
Oh my. Perito looks like someone took a miniturizing ray gun to a Xolo and smacked a chichi head on it!! LOL I’m glad he got a Xolo personality! How adorable! I’ve shown dogs since I was 12 that makes it 50 years and while I think Chilhoooie dogs are funny as hell, the personalities of some are like Karens on steroids. I showed Min. Poodles and Smooth Fox Terrorists and now Standard Longhaired Doxies. 🙂 Enjoy the doggies. Have one GSD, she’s the son’s who lives with me, Nora and she’s a love bug. And yes, the poodle DOES have a mohawk!
Poodle with a Mohawk – starring Bob Barker, a classic by Lynda Barry!
Perrito is one of the most adorable pups I have ever seen in my life. That’s saying something – I’ve worked with animals almost 20 years. If you could sell bottled Perrito snuggles, I would buy them in lots.
Martha’s method of snarly repellent made me outright giggle. Definitely a good, smart lady!
Looooooved it! Thanks for this hilarious post 😀
If I had one wish free it‘d be to see a video of Meow Meow and Perrito playing… so, maybe we‘ll get to see that someday? 😉

Perrito!!!!!! I have been hoping you’d post a picture since you first mentioned himand said how hard it was to knit anything small enough to fit him…I love him!!!!!!!! 😍💕💕💕💕💕💕
So im having a bad day today. So im eating some chips going to start a reread on iron and magic but first im taking another look at perrito cause his face legit makes me happy. Ilona and gordon no pressure but i gott admit im excited for iron and magic 2, magic claims and im hoping for a second book of maud😋 you guys are great authors tho so whatever comes i will definetely take lol thanks again for the dog posts. Im trying to convince the hubs we need a dog😋just have a cat now
Ahhh Love the stories and pictures on the grandpup/kits. I have never had a hairless cat or dog so am not sure other than normal basic hygeine maintanence if you need to do something else like lotions. Small dogs get cold anyways so does this mean Ilona is going to practice knitting dog sweaters or tshirts for Perrito? I love that he gets along with all even Meow Meow. Not saying anything against Meow Meow but cats in general do not always get along with dogs especially energetic puppies.
Moderator R says
Perrito has special moisturisers and sun lotions- and a wardrobe of cute socks to wear until he gets a bit bigger for hand knit sweaters 😊 https://ilona-andrews.com/2023/crafting-and-other-weirdness/
My favorite post! Funny! More, more, more…..

I love your pet stories! Speaking of, I tried to find the blog entry that involved the “Hi, I’m Artha!” and hysterical stories in the comments but it seems to have disappeared?
Moderator R says
The Life with a German Shepherd post has been archived and is no longer available, I’m afraid.
Awwwwww, Perrito looks like a mischievous little old man. I realize he’s a puppy but he had that quizzical old man face one with the wild hairs growing on his head and he reminded me of my Gramps. I am curious what his skin feels like. I had a cat who was genetically unable to grow hair on his stomach and his belly felt like velvet, is that what Perrito feels like?
Perrito is adorable and Artha rocks!
Martha Christina says
That was a brilliant hole-digging deterrent! There are times I wish I had thought of that.
That little chihuahua acts like a cat. No wonder Meaw-Meow has adopted it.
Well Artha has certainly given a new meaning to, “Fire in the hole!”
Ok, Perrito absolutely KO’ed me, I LOVE HIM!!
Secondly, the GSD story was a treat. Thank you for sharing 😂
The thuftie hair on top of Perrito’s head is so adorable. I don’t know what I was expecting from your descriptions. Err, yes I do.

How could anybody be cruel to Perrito. He’s adorable. i don’t see a lot of Chi in him at all. How old is he? I love that Artha has adopted him and that Meow Meow is so gentle with him. Quincy is such a card! I love all the animal stories. Thank you for sharing.

So stinkin cute!!! OMG! And thank you for the desperately needed laugh.

Sweet little Perrito’s eyes shine with his goodness.
Artha has always been my favorite of your family pet stories. But Perrito is just so cute he is definitely a contender. I didn’t realize how tiny he was until the video with MeowMeow. Kid2 is definitely blessed with pets of unique personalities.
I don’t think you need to worry about Perrito generating negative comments. There is a distinct personality that shines through the pictures. And while he varies from the standard image for a puppy he is still adorable.
That is hilarious 😂, love it! Good for Artha! Perrito is a cutie, please give a cuddle to little doggie for me!
Perrito’s eyes look like there’s an old soul looking out.
Ahahaha 😀 Yep, there’s nothing like getting a face full of sh*t to stop an a$$hole dog in its tracks.
Smartest defensive move ever! Go Artha! Made my day. Perrito is the cutest baby ever. That song that they play saying me going to cause shit with a pup doing a prancing dance goes perfect with Perrito. I love the fur babies. TYVM
I have two small dogs (Shi-Tzus) and they patrol their territory (a fenced in yard) with loud noises. If they chose to defend it with poopies, I would say more power to them. You go, guys.
Michelle M says
Perrito is adorable, so cute and I love the little black fur on the top of his head that sticks up. I am glad that all the other animals in the house get on with him since he is so small.
Faith Reeves says
You have no reason to worry about harsh words being directed at Perrito, because there won’t be any. He is clearly the most beautiful dog ever in his heart, where it counts the most, and scores a 10/10 in cuteness too! 😊
Love tiny Perrito (where’d his name come from please), & love defication warfare. If only we could be so creative to menacing neighbors!
Moderator R says
He was named for the Puss in Boots 2 character 😊 https://youtu.be/tQrws12BtZY
Perimeter defecation? Oh, I just love that, and what a smart dog she is.

I ♥ Perrito!! I would give up Kate stories for more Perrito stories/videos! Perrito should have his own IG!
Perrito! Perrito! Perrito!!
Yes!!! I second a Perrito IG!!!!
Your are all so blessed to have such wonderful fur babies for family members. Perrito is adorable and we all know that wonderful things come in the smallest of packages.
Artha is BRILLIANT! 🤣🤣🤣
My sister’s first dog was a teacup chihuahua that topped out at 13 pounds (yeah…biiiig teacup and yes she was almost as wide as she was tall).
She was a sweetheart. Absolutely and completely loved 99% of the population. There were odds and ends that she took an instant hate to, but they were very few and far between.
The majority of chis are not to my taste, but my sister’s first? Sweetie darling.
Perrito is very seriously one of the most adorable dogs I have ever seen.
Thank you so much for sharing him. I would watch a channel devoted to him non-stop!!
Artha = SMART
Dear Perrito, We can’t all be super models, personality is always more important 😊
Isn’t Perrito Spanish for little dog or puppy Perro (dog) .. perrita (little dog)….. perrito (puppy)..? sorry I’m Aussie and my spanish is pretty bad…
Vacation suggestions-two. First, Lake Tahoe. One of the most beautiful places in the world, cool weather in the summer although I would advise September as it is a popular place. Suggestion 2, Pajaro Dunes on the California coast below Monterey. My brother-in-law has a beach house he rents (sleeps 7 or 8) literally beachfront. Public beach but far enough from public parking and access that it’s never crowded. Bliss! Cool. Not humid! Not like Florida at all.

OMG I don’t even know where to start, this post absolutely made my day! GSDs and kitty and tiny silly puppy – AAAAAAHHHHHH, the joy!!!
Perrito looks like a tiny miniature piglet in the first pic, he is so cute!!
Also I have now determined I must use “perimeter defecation warfare” in casual conversation at least once this week. 😂😂😂😀
Do the Xolos of the world know that their next Emperor is gonna top out at 9 inches tall at the shoulder?

Your adorable dogs look happy and well loved. I’m glad they can bring you so much joy and I’m glad they have you. thank you for this clips into the life of you creatures, adorable one and all!
My tough-as-nails macho brother has had a number of chi-chis. He loves those dogs to the moon and back! Doesn’t matter what they look like!
Meow Meow is so big now.
I don’t think she is slipping under bedroom doors anymore. 🙂
Perrito= perfect name! Perfect cutie!
Your Quincy looks very much like our 7 months old Unna, she is also very active..
The little Perrito does look very sweet…
Perrito is ADORBS!!!! I love the Xolo Breed, and half a half and half Chi myself…… Honestly, I really love that puppy… he is EVERYTHING
Sue Young says
i love xolos and Perrito is adorable. Sadly since they’re a rare breed and have a strong prey drive I doubt I’ll ever have one. I have 5 bunnies who most dogs think are prey. They like dogs and are buddies with my min pin. Min pins generally have a high prey drive but my Penny has none. But hmmm. If xolos come in Perrito’s size there may be some hope. He looks smaller than my netherland dwarf. Definitely smaller than my Flemish giant. She’s 12lbs of muscles and teeth.
Oh Perrito ! You are so cute!
I have friends with cresties and friends with xolos (all sizes!) I really love the mini’s! and I love the hairy standards! I think it is the years.
So I think Perrito is just the cutest!
Thank you for sharing him with us!
Does Perrito want to be a therapy dog? So cute.
Love the dog stories! Little Perrito has beautiful eyes. He sounds delightful.
Perrito is adorable and Quincy and Artha are beautiful. Love the video of Perrito and Meow Meow playing. You’re lucky they all get along! The most pets we had at one time were three rescue dogs and two cats. Really missing having a cat (they rule!). We have a long-haired dachshund who worships my husband. Well, they’re both males so I get it. Dachshunds have lots of opinions but are adorable too.
Barbara Swanson says
oh such great pets. Smart, smart doggies. Defecation defense, activated!
FYI, I hope to see Perrito star in a role of some wonderful sort in a future book. Adorable.
Please, please don’t forget to put sunscreen on the little dog! He could burn so quickly.
I see a lot of cute knit puppy sweaters in Perrito’s future, and I love the GSD smarts.

I laughed so much I had to call my daughter (who has a big lab that runs up and down their fence barking at the neighbor dogs) and tell her the story. She loved it also! Thanks for making me laugh! I love you little Perrito!

Perrito is adorable! Love his double Mohawk and he kinda fits his name (Perrito = Perfect! it actually means puppy or small dog, but I think he’s perfect). he’s a gorgeous puppy and I don’t understand how anyone could make fun of him.
Perrito is adorable, and has a good build! And Artha is the smartest goodest good girl.
I have a full-blooded long-haired Chihuahua and she loves strangers, kids, babies, dogs / cats and can’t wait to make friends with everyone! Does not nip, yap, bite and rarely barks (usually only to let us know that there is an Uber Eats delivery waiting on the porch). Chi’s def get a bad rap!
Love the pictures of Perrito. He is adorable! Love even more the perimeter defecation warfare story!
